Ella Ruth Johnson

I lost my Grandmother on August 14th at 12:15 PM. At 28 years old, she is the first of my 4 Grandparents to pass away. Never in life have I experienced such sorrow. It hurts everyday. Waking up each morning is like reliving August 14th all over again. This is not a dream. She's really gone. It hurts so badly. I know that I know that I know she is at the Throne of Grace rejoicing. And this will be the first blog post she won't respond to since I started this blog in December 2011. I love you, Mu. Rest peacefully in the arms of our Savior.

Wednesday

Tour of Houston

Today, Desmond took me on a tour of Houston via the Metro Rail. It was awesome! I've never been on a rail before. And only times I'd been in the Medical Center or Downtown were when me and Jaz were lost...lol

Alas, pictures of today's adventure.....

Monday

Do It Yourself Sunday

Found this dresser by the dumpster last month. Of course, I snatched it! Wheeled it to my garage and it sat there all this time. Today, I decided it was time. Wiped it down with clorox spray and an old tshirt. Unscrewed all the handles. Went to Lowe's. Bought paint and a mask and gloves and a tarp to paint on. Came back home and started sanding. Chunks of wood were missing. So I went back to Lowe's for wood filler. (For your information, I know my Grandpa is proud of me as he's reading this. We worked on projects like this ALL THE TIME when I was little!) Got back home and used the wood filler. Let it dry then sanded it down. Wiped everything down again and started painting...with spray paint! Yup. This is a 100% spray painted 100% wood dresser. Total Project Cost: $51.00! Not bad! I love it! :-)

Memorial Day

Today, we had a picnic at Bay Area Park. None of us had been there before. Scenery was beautiful. Of course, Jaz stayed on the playground. Beautiful day. Note: I'm also including pics from the show we went to at Miller Outdoor Theatre on Saturday night. This was one of THE MOST fun weekends we've had in a long time! :-)

Saturday

Saturday

This morning, Jaz was up around 6ish as usual.

Little did she know...she was about to experience a morning dedicated to her.

Until that time...I told her it was time to start getting ready cuz I had some places I wanted to go. Ran her bath water and put out her play clothes on the bed. She expected nothing.

Told her we needed to clean up before we left so I pulled out the vacuum cleaner and started taking linens off the beds and raised the windows. She vacuumed the whole apartment.

Then the doorbell rang.

She asked who it was. I looked confused and said I didn't know. So I went downstairs to answer the door.

Who was it? Mr. Desmond!

We finished getting ready and he took us to breakfast at Tel-Winks in Houston. It. Was. Delicious.

Seeing as how it was right down the street from Gulfgate Shopping Center...and I can't ever pass a Ross or Marshalls without perusing....we stopped in those stores and looked around.

Then we headed back to La Porte. Me and Jaz went upstairs to put our leftover food in the fridge.

While in the kitchen, I asked her where her bat was. She asked why and I gave her the look. She started jumping up and down and ran to give me a hug. "Thank you, Mommy!" I told her it was a surprise from Mr. Desmond and he wanted to take her out to hit at the field. "Yayyy! Thank you for letting me go with Mr. Desmond!" She grabbed her "Hello Kitty" bat and ball and glove he'd given to her a couple weeks ago and we got back in his truck.

Went to the field and she had a blast! He taught her how to hold the bat and how to swing and how to catch pop ups and how to field grounders.

It was a great morning.

Currently resting until this evening. He's taking us to the Miller Outdoor Theater in Hermann Park (our favorite park!) to watch a Motown production.

Taking blankets and chairs to sit on the hill.

I'm excited about it.

Jaz doesn't know yet.

She's currently knocked out taking a nap! :-)

And here's a video of her batting.
If you can't see this in email, you'll probably have to actually go to www.thewombmateandi.blogspot.com to watch it! :-)
